My first time at Metronome and what an introduction. Linton Kwesi Johnson commands respect from the moment he enters a space. Perfect evening. Thank you.

Linton Kwesi Johnson , Metronome, Nottingham - 4th May 2019
There is nothing like hearing the narrative that led to the creation of a collection of poems that highlight historical issues to bring home the need for more cohesion in out communities. Having first discovered LKJ's poetry back in the 90s when I was studying post colonial literature as part of my degree, I was delighted to have the opportunity to hear him perform his poetry and meet him in person. On stage he has the presence and resonance to silence a crowd and leave them with a powerful message. Despite the horrors and the hardships, I left the event feeling exhilarated and hopeful for harmony in the future.

This event was well organised with two support acts who held their own. The main act - Linton Kwesi Johnson - was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and had clearly lived a life where his actions matched his words. The only downside was that the venue got very warm towards the end to the point of being uncomfortable which made it difficult to concentrate. Other than that the venue was great with a fully licensed bar and an accessible, central location.

Great evening at Waterstones. The best poet by far was Leanne Moden. Relevent, heartfelt and funny. I related to her poetry far more than the other 2 poets. Fully enjoyed all though.

This year’s Nottingham Poetry Festival is a supersized 10 days of blistering performances, open mics, workshops, panels and community events that will see people unite together across the city (7th - 16th June 2024).
The annual celebration of words features headline shows from Linton Kwesi Johnson, Hollie McNish and Michael Pedersen, Luke Wright and Anthony Joseph with the full programme set to be released in April.
It’s the biggest and most ambitious programme lined up for this eighth year, under the direction a new creative director brought in for her experience of working in the community arts sector with a specific focus on the talent development of young artists, wellbeing and community events.
