This was a beautiful homage to Joni's masterpiece Shadows and Light, every minute was glorious by a hugely talented ensemble ...

HEJIRA, The Hound Dog, Derby - 19th April 2024
Having missed them three times in Nottingham, we went to excellent venue The Hound Dog in Derby last night to see the terrific 7-piece Hejira playing the music of Joni Mitchell, with a particular focus on songs from her album 'Hejira', which also happens to be my favourite among her extensive output. The Hound Dog is an ideal venue for this sort of gig - warm, friendly and like a jazz club should be. The audience was very attentive and the band, each member of which displayed a high standard of musicianship, were warmly received. Singer Hattie Whitehead did full justice to Joni's songs, and during the quieter moments, including 'A Case of You' (which was the encore) you could've heard a pin drop. Bravo!

First time at the Hound Dog. I am just Joni Mitchell mad so had to see Hejira. All the staff were warm and friendly. I shared a bottle of wine with my friend, good value not over priced. Atmosphere was excellent and Hejira brilliant, I'd definitely see them again. Can't comment on the food as we were not eating bur plenty of folk seemed to be .
