Genius x2

Courtney Pine is a genius no doubt but when you put him alongside Zoe Rahman what you get is something truly astonishing. It was an evening not without issues - it’s difficult when there are unavoidable technical difficulties (a tricky reed, I think). However, after a slightly longer break in the middle then anyone probably anticipated, they came back and delivered an astonishing set. I’d go and see them again whenever they play, such is the beauty of improvisational Music.

Beautiful jazz duo

The legendary Courtney Pine gelled beautifully with his piano partner Zoe Rahman. A modest headliner - giving a performance enjoyed throughout by an appreciative sudience

Courtney Pine is one of the most influential figures in British jazz, blending elements of reggae, hip-hop, and soul into his forward-thinking compositions. His 1986 album Journey to the Urge Within was a groundbreaking release, becoming the first British jazz album to break into the UK Top 40. Over his career, Pine has continued to push boundaries, making jazz accessible to wider audiences while maintaining his experimental edge.

Pine has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the UK, including the Royal Albert Hall, and has been a regular presence at major jazz festivals across the country. His contributions to music have earned him an OBE and a CBE, and his live performances remain a must-see for anyone passionate about innovative jazz.
