THE MEN THEY COULDN'T HANG, The Hairy Dog, Derby - 7th April 2023
Great venue (Lagunitas on draught!) with excellent acoustics for an excellent headline performance by The Men They Couldn't Hang. Support act, The Lagan, got the evening off to a flying start with an energetic performance of their original celtic rock set; definitely a band to watch out for. TMTCH came on to an enthusiastic greeting, with a high proportion of die-hard fans in attendance. Some rarely performed gems, such as 'Island in the Rain' and 'Arrow' were featured along with all the old favourites. We were treated to one previously unplayed track commemorating the band's upcoming 40th anniversary by the trio of Swill, Paul and Bobby. The Cush tribute, 'Red Kite Rising' has now become a staple, and was accompanied by 'Running on Ice' amongst the newer numbers. The Men left the stage to raucous applause, culminating in a 3-song encore. Judging by the conversations and upbeat mood in the bar afterwards, nobody left the gig disappointed. Another great performance by a legendary band.
